CHANEL The Great Classics of all Time

The Saatchi Gallery are currently exhibiting  photographs of celebs in Chanel jackets (till 5th Nov) not super riveting but it is a reminder of how desirable a Chanel jacket still is. Each season the prices go up and there are a few lovely jackets I would adore to own. We all know the story of the slouchy Chanel jacket or cardigan how Coco Chanel changed the way women dressed at the time. I still love the cardigan jacket, which is of course more than a cardigan and less than a “tailored” jacket. ideal for the female form. Looks great for so many occasions and works with most things jeans, cropped pants, over a dress.

Sadly I sold a lovely cream Chanel jacket to Rellic the other day , I hope it went to a good home . it was just the prettiest thing. But ho hum I bought it a bit small and it was always tight across the back so I barely wore it. I have a navy single breasted boucle wool, and a slub silk double breasted jacket both much loved and worn and bought pre Karl Largerfeld.

My Chanel quilted bag is still in use after many years,  but I would still like the classic 2.55.

Last week a twenty five year old was also longing for THE bag for a birthday incredible how it still continues to have the allure for all ages after decades.

Then there is the two tone shoe, the white camellia to pin on a lapel, the black satin bows, for neck and hair, the pearl and gilt necklaces, the earrings. Each has an iconic status. Instantly recognisable.

The label and graphics are still so chic as is the carrier bag . Even at todays bonkers prices both for new and for vintage for clothes, bags, makeup etc Chanel certainly still has my vote as “Great Classic of all Time”

This October Hedi Slimane showed his first women’s collection for the house of Saint Laurent Reviews were mixed.

I think it is a very dark collection, alot of black, considering it is for Spring/Summer 2013. Still the show was full of sublime tailoring and classy pieces that will be a joy to wear and certainly will take his customers to a myriad of events.

There comes a time in all our lives when edgy is just a bore. Clothes that force a change in a womans natural proportion, with say volume, egg shapes, crops, slits, chains, one sleeved jackets shrunken sizing, sequins for the office, neoprene for a ball, well its tireing.

Mr Slimane is masterful with his tailoring, he should be after years in menswear but he has created some pretty dresses too, with a big nod to the Yves Saint Laurent archives. I found an old picture at home that illustrates the point!

Lady GaGa has been seen out wearing outfits from the runway already but dont let that discourage you fashionistas.
